Place as Purpose, a celebration of contemporary poetry in the West, October 10-12, 2002, is a first of its kind event for Los Angeles. The festival is broadly representitive of western geographical areas and types of poetry, with visiting poets reading in the evenings at Otis College of Art and Design, Occidental College, and the Autry Museum of Western Heritage, while daytime events include panel discussions by Los Angeles poets and critics: The Culture of Nature,City Wilderness, Borders and Genres, and Utopia/Dystopia.
