CD Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Compilation
One of the most familiar songs in all American music, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" is among the Top 20 all-time earners in the American record business. It has been a hit for Gene Autry, the Chipmunks, the Temptations, the Melodeers, Spike Jones, and Bing Crosby and has been recorded by literally hundreds of others.
The story began in 1939 when the Montgomery Ward retail store chain wanted to give away a storybook to its customers at Christmas and assigned the job to Robert L. May. Ten years later, May's brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, wrote a song about May's creation, and it was an instantaneous smash. This Bear Family release gives the song "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" the deluxe treatment, and includes the original Gene Autry hit, the sequels, foreign versions, and a sampling of other versions by artists as diverse as Perry Como, Dean Martin, and Dolly Parton.
