Hand carved jicara mezcaleros made by Pepe Cruz from the Coast of Oaxaca. The "jicara" is a fruit very similar to a pumpkin. It's rind is gray, smooth to slightly scaly.

The shell of the jicara has been used to make kitchen utensils, musical instruments such as maracas, spoons, bowls, etc. since pre-Hispanic times.
