This beautiful pottery seed jar by Wilfred Garcia (Acoma Pueblo) features a finely sculpted turtle perched on top, symbolizing longevity and protection. Standing 8.28 inches tall, this elegant piece showcases Garcia’s signature style—hand-polished white clay intricately carved with traditional Acoma, Anasazi, and Mimbres-inspired designs.
Wilfred Garcia was renowned for gathering natural clays from Acoma Pueblo, hand-coiling each vessel, and carving his designs entirely by hand. He achieved the distinctive satin sheen by polishing each piece with a stone, resulting in a smooth and luminous surface.
Garcia’s exceptional artistry earned him numerous awards and features in major publications, including Beyond Tradition and Southwest Art. His works have been exhibited throughout the United States. Now passed on, Wilfred Garcia remains celebrated as one of Acoma Pueblo’s distinguished potters.
